A new law on preventing domestic fires will save lives, a Labour Assembly Member has claimed.
The new law would make it compulsory for all newly built houses to be fitted with sprinklers which would prevent fires from spreading throughout the house, Joyce Watson AM has said.
Speaking during a debate in the National Assembly for Wales, the Labour Member for Mid and West Wales said:
“It is tragic that on average twenty people die each year in domestic fires in Wales, this law will hopefully mean that none do so in the future.
“Fires not only cause the indefinable, inconsolable grief and sense of loss at losing a loved one, they also lead to despair at losing the family home and all the irreplaceable items within it.
“I would like to pay tribute to Ann Jones AM, who brought forward this law; she has a wealth of expertise in this area and her skill and tenacity will mean that many lives will be saved.”
