Mid and West Wales AMs Rebecca Evans and Joyce Watson are urging residents to join a Credit Union to celebrate International Credit Union Day.
Thursday (Oct 18th) marks International Credit Union Day, a global celebration to raise awareness of the credit union movement.
At present, there are 22 credit unions covering the whole of Wales providing services to more than 55,000 adults and young savers.
Haven Credit Union (Milford Haven), Save Easy Credit Union (Llanelli), Robert Owen Credit Union (Newtown) and Credcer Credit Union (Cardigan) all offer services in their respective areas to the people of Mid & West Wales.
Rebecca Evans said:
“At a time where families are saving up for Christmas, I would urge people to take advantage of Credit Unions instead of turning to unscrupulous loan sharks and pay day loan companies that charge sky-high rates.”
Joyce Watson said:
“Credit unions offer fair, responsible community-based banking – qualities that the big banks have tended to forget in recent years.
“They offer an accessible, low risk and easy place to save money, and give access to low cost loans.
Many now offer other services such as ISAs, budgeting advice, insurance products and debt management.”
