School is ‘cornerstone of community’, says AM

Ysgol Ardudwy in Harlech has been heralded as the cornerstone of the community by an Assembly Member.
Joyce Watson, AM for Mid and West Wales, recently visited the school to congratulate year 10 pupils on their contribution to the community. Last term, the pupils joined with Harlech WI to renovate Harlech railway station, creating a striking mural to welcome arrivals to the town. The renovation formed part of the pupils’ Welsh Baccalaureate studies, which aims to give pupils a more rounded education.
The school has reached an agreement with Arriva Trains Wales to ensure that the pupils are able to take the train to and from school at a convenient time. As a result, pupils can stay for after-school clubs and still take the train home.
Joyce Watson AM said, ‘There is clearly a community ethos which runs prominently through the school. I was delighted to meet the pupils who had helped to renovate the station into the welcoming place it is now.
‘This is just one example of how the school is working closely with different areas of the community to support, and benefit from, the work of Harlech residents.
‘The agreement with Arriva Trains Wales is a great example of common sense being applied to help the pupils.’
