The Green Valleys initiative in Brecon should act as an example of how communities can contribute to their area whilst simultaneously tackling climate change, Assembly Member Joyce Watson has said.
The initiative, which enables local groups in sourcing and installing community owned micro generation projects for community benefit, demonstrates that everyone can come together to help their area and the planet at the same time, Joyce argued.
“Schemes such as the Green Valleys initiative are testament to the creativity of the people of the area. It benefits local communities as they produce their own energy and therefore keeps costs down, and also helps the environment as it promotes clean sources of energy.”
Mrs Watson, who is Labour’s Rural Affairs Spokesperson, claims that Wales has a great opportunity to produce clean energy.
“In Wales we are blessed with the suitable landscapes for developing renewable energy sources. This is an issue which governments all over the World are looking at and it would be fantastic if Wales could go from being a throw-away nation to living within its means.”
